In the north side of the island, near Playa de ses Illetes, you can reach the tip of the peninsula of Trucador, which set the northernmost point of Formentera.
This place, called Es Pas but also known as “The Crossing” and barely connected to Espalmador by a strip of sand about 200 meters long so you reach it by boat that set sail from the port of Cala Savina or other small boats that depart from Illetes, or – for those who are well trained – by swimming.
On good weather days, you can make even walk to because the sea level does not exceed the meter, especially in the morning at low tide.
Espalmador is a wild and uninhabited small island of only 3 square kilometers, without any kind of structure; due to the amount of plant and animal species from which it is populated, it considered a protected natural park, which is subject to an absolute ban on building bars, restaurants and more. So just remember to bring water, food and everything you might need.
This place hides many small natural wonders. There are several beaches, all virgins and beautiful, but the most beautiful is undoubtedly Platja de s’Alga (or Racó), a natural cove with white sand and the Caribbean Sea, favorite destination for many tourists; in high season, you can see numerous fancy yachts near the coast of this beautiful cove.
At the center of the island, near the Platja de s’Alga, there is a small lagoon where you can enjoy healthy hot clay baths, which seems to be pretty good for your health.
The only structure built by human hand is to the west, in the highest part of s’Espalmador: it is the Torre de Sa Guardiola, a watchtower built in the eighteenth century, the place to take the most amazing panorama picture of your life…
